Rust & Company are restorers of antique clocks. They are from
Winchester. They were featured on a program of "Tennessee
Crossroads" and will bring some of the clocks to the meeting, along
with descriptions, etc.
NEW BOOK!!! - Obituaries & Death Notices (of Persons Born before
1900) of Rutherford County
- This long anticipated book (370 pages) has gone to the publishers
and will be ready for purchase April 1, 2010. The book has
obituaries and death notices of over 2,350 individuals, most with
comprehensive relationship information. There are 88 pages of
index. Hopefully this book will be helpful to history and
genealogical researchers looking for Rutherford County people.
A CD (compact disc) of the book in PDF file form will also be made
available for purchase. PDF can be read by downloading free
software called Adobe Reader 9 -
www.adobe.com. This free software allows you to view,
print and collaborate on PDF files. The printed book will sell
for $25 plus $5 mailing charges. The CD will sell for $5 ($10

Remembering Rutherford
- by Greg Tucker, paperback, 192 pages, $21.99 plus tax, will be
available for purchase at the Society meeting May 17. Also,
there will be a Meet the Author book
signing at the Discovery
Center at Murfree Spring, 502 S.E. Broad street on Sunday, May 23,
2010, 2-4PM. Books will be on sale in the gift shop; proceeds
support the Discovery Center. Many of you have enjoyed the
weekly column Greg writes in the local newspaper about the people,
places and events that make Rutherford County unique. Now, he
has collected these stories into a book. From the remote hills
and hollows to the parlors and attics of historic Main Street, from
the clear memories of centenarians to the dark corners of the State
Archives come the true accounts Greg has collected over the past few
years. These meticulously researched stories will inform and
amuse both longtime residents and newcomers. Biscuit tea,
outhouse births, monkey wrenches, milk snakes, devil fences,
whittlers, grave robbers, Boy Scouts, cattle drives, barnstormers,
heroes, scoundrels - they all are found in this outstanding
collection of local history and lore. NOTE: This
book will not be available through the Rutherford County Historical
