Alf Sharp, a fine furniture maker, will be the guest speaker at Oaklands Historic House Museum’s Annual Membership Luncheon, held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Maney Hall, located at 901 North Maney Ave., in Murfreesboro.
Sharp will discuss furniture making through a 19th century cabinet maker’s eyes. As a custom furniture-maker, he creates one or two museum quality pieces of furniture at a time in his small shop in Woodbury. His work appears in museums and historic homes throughout the South and has been featured in numerous major periodicals and books.
“With the continued restoration and care of the mansion and its collection, this is an excellent opportunity for Oaklands members and the community to learn more about the furniture of the time period and how it was designed and constructed,” said James Manning, executive director of Oaklands Historic House Museum.
Tickets to the luncheon are $22 per person. Lunch will be catered by Halley Neal, owner of Granny’s Gourmet. Reservations are required and must be made by Friday, Nov. 9, by calling 615-893-0022 or by e-mail at [email protected].
