Help solve a murder mystery and enjoy a meal, too

Poison Ratenstein is in town for a killer concert, but his fans may be looking for a refund after this twisted tour turns tragic with a murder at the mansion and a mystery tosolve. You can help solve the mystery when Oaklands Mansion hosts a totally ’80s dinner theater from 6-10 p.m. Friday.

Oaklands Mansion will be featured on the Candlelight Tour of Homes on Dec. 5.

“We’ll start the evening off right at 6 p.m. with wine in the mansion. And some may not make it out alive” joked James Manning, executive director of Oaklands Mansion.

Professional actors from Snyder Entertainment will lead the show as survivors gather clues to identify the murderer.

‘Help the crowd and the detective figure out who ruined this totally tubular night, so everyone can, like, take a chill pill,’ said Manning, putting his best ’80s lingo to work.

The evening will also include dinner catered by Peter D’s, drinks will be poured by Julie’s Bartending, and a patrons will also have a chance to use super-sleuthing skills.

Funds raised support Oaklands’ mission rooted in education and preservation, Manning said.

Make sure you are dressed with the times or someone may ask you to bag your head, Manning said. Just grab your most righteous ‘80s concert gear to rock out in style while you solve a crime with your friends.

(Jean jackets and spandex leggings, big hair, bangles, leg warmers, and ripped jeans will be all the rage at this rocking night of mystery.) Tickets are $75 a person. Oaklands Mansion is located at 900 N. Maney Ave. in Murfreesboro. The historic site, once home to one of Murfreesboro’s first families, is nestled in Oaklands Park, a native tree arboretum and natural wetlands that includes Maney Spring as well as heritage and native gardens.

Oaklands Visitors Center houses a gift shop and Maney Reception Hall for special events and temporary exhibitions.

Oaklands Mansion is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.
