History Break-Ector’s Texas Brigade-Stones River National Battlefield

January 6, 2015, Mike Browning, City of Murfreesboro (Tennessee)

This living history video, captured on the 151st anniversary of the Battle of Stones River, presents two sides of the Battle of Stones River.

Brig. Gen. Matthew D. Ector led an experienced Confederate unit under Maj. Gen. William H.T. Walker’s Division of Gen. Joseph E. Johnson’s Army.  The dismounted Texas cavalrymen of Ector’s brigade included the 10th Texas Cavalry and the 14th Texas Cavalry (Ector’s Texans).  Ector’s brigade assaulted the inexperienced Union Pioneer Brigade and the Chicago Board of Trade Battery during the Battle of Stones River in some of the hardest fighting.
