Part of Jefferson Pike named after longtime historian

The Murfreesboro Post, May 30, 2013

A stretch of Route 266 will be named after Rutherford County Historian Ernest Johns in honor of his service to the community, officials recently announced.

Rutherford County Historian Ernest Johns was presented with a proclamation May 20 by state Rep. Mike Sparks in honor of his service to the community.

During a regularly scheduled meeting of the Rutherford County Historical Society, Sparks also announced that a stretch of highway will be named after Johns as well.

A mile-long section of Route 266 near his home from Gil’s Ace Hardware to the bridge on Jefferson Pike will be known as the Ernie Johns Highway.

Johns, who is a former member of the Rutherford County Commission, served as county historian for a number of years.
