Rutherford County Historical Society member James Allen Gooch demonstrates witching, a ‘low-tech’ process used to locate graves in the cemetery. The same process was once used to locate sites for water wells. “as you walk across a grave, the rods are supposed to come together,” Gooch explained, while holding two metal dividing rods.
