Linebaugh Library is offering a unique opportunity Sunday, April 22, for the community to learn about two recently published works that relate directly to the history of Murfreesboro.
Co-authors Lisa Ramsay and Tammy Vaughn will share about their book, “Tennessee’s Dixie Highway: The Cline Postcards,” and Bill Shacklett and John Lodl will talk about their book, “Murfreesboro: Then and Now,” beginning at 2 p.m.
Supervisory Clerk Lisa Ramsay has been collecting Cline postcards for a number of years. She and Tammy Vaughn, an eighth generation Rutherford County native, worked together to publish a book that showcases the work of photographers Walter M. Cline Sr. and his son from the 1930s and 1940s.
The book, published by Arcadia Publishing in October 2011, highlights history of the Dixie Highway route, which touches on many well-known sites here in Rutherford County and Middle Tennessee.
As the seat of Rutherford County, one of the fastest growing areas in the United States in the past 20 years, Murfreesboro has also seen change.
Photographer Richard C. “Dick” Shacklett captured the changing scenes of Murfreesboro in the 1900s. His son Bill and historian John Lodl now present these images to the public through their book that was published by Arcadia Publishing in February.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the second floor Reading Room at the Linebaugh Library, located at 105 W. Vine St. in Murfreesboro.
