Frank Caperton, President, Rutherford County Historical Society
Hello Local Historians!
Wow – has 2017 been a great year for the Rutherford County Historical Society or what! Our growth has been unprecedented with the addition of more than 100 memberships. Our ‘Coffee & Conversation’ each Saturday morning continues to be well attended each Saturday morning. Our 2017 awards banquet may have set a new attendance record with 97 attendees at Oaklands Mansion. Even our tours of Old Jefferson are crowded!
There is a craving for knowledge regarding OUR local history. And this craving extends beyond our current membership. Our website (www.rutherfordtnhistory.org), containing almost 1,000 stories, pictures and videos regarding our local history, saw more than 190,000 page views. Our Facebook page has 2,300 followers. Even our YouTube channel saw just over 3,000 views in 2017.
Now, enough resting on our successful 2017. Let’s continue our explosive growth in 2018. Let’s continue to support OUR local history by asking our friends to visit Ransom School House on Saturday mornings and attending our monthly meetings. Let’s ask ourselves ‘when was the last time we visited Oaklands? The Sam Davis Home? Bradley Academy?’
The RCHS receives no state nor federal funding. Your membership is our main funding vehicle.
Help the RCHS continue this energy by renewing your membership – after all, we are the best ‘local history’ value in town at only $25-a-year for the entire family.
