Education, music and turnip green cook-off among Oct. 24 activities.
Bradley Academy Museum and Cultural Center is having its inaugural Heritage Festival Art Contest. The contest will be held in conjunction with the Rutherford County African American Heritage Festival from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Bradley Academy Museum, 415 Academy St.
The event will feature music, education, turnip green cook-off, food and more.
There will be a turnip green cook off with a small entry fee and big cash prizes and a horseshoe-pitching tournament with a small fee and big cash prizes. All mediums will be accepted for the art contest, but painting must be on canvas or canvas board. Competing age groups are 6-9, 10-13, and 14-17. Cash prizes for each group are: 1st place $75, 2nd place $50, and 3rd place $25. The entry deadline 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. All artwork must be at Bradley by that time.
The awards ceremony will be at the Heritage Festival at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 Entry forms can be obtained from Bradley Academy Museum and should be distributed to schools soon. For more information or to rent a vendor booth, contact Katie Wilson at 867-2633.
