Join us at Murfreesboro’s Old Fort Park for a series of ongoing activities and special programs/hikes focusing on the natural and historic resources in our community and celebrate the 100th birthday of the National Park Service.
GUIDED PROGRAMS (Meet at Picnic Pavilion #2)
10 AM – Fortress Rosecrans Walk – Explore the remaining earthworks of a fortress that dominated Murfreesboro’s landscape during the Civil War and played a key role in the Union’s drive to Chattanooga, Atlanta, and the sea.
11 AM – Ranger Man Dan! – Take part in a fun, interactive, one-person show for kids or families about the environment and wacky people in it.
1 PM – Rain Garden Walk – Stroll through the Old Fort Park rain gardens and learn how these beautiful plots help improve water quality in our community.
2 PM – Civil War Melodies – Sing along with actor/musician Dan Haughey and experience the Civil War through its music.
3 PM – Wildflower Walk – Walk along the Lytle Creek Greenway and learn more about the beautiful plants that bring color to the landscape.
ONGOING ACTIVITIES (Stop by anytime from 10 AM to 4 PM)
Load, Ready, Fire! – Try your hand at the drill for loading and firing a Civil War cannon.
Civil War Fun & Games – Children of all ages will enjoy playing the games that kept young people occupied during the Civil War
Outdoor Classroom – Learn about nature with some hands-on activities presented by Rutherford County’s Environmental Education Project.
Recycling Fun – All in One Recycling will present hands-on activities highlighting the benefits of recycling.
Trail Worms – Get a head start on becoming a Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Trail Worm by participating in a fun activity that will teach you how to explore nature in our area.
Water Sampling – Help us learn more about the Lytle Creek watershed by taking water samples with help from Rutherford County’s Project Wet.
EARN A SPECIAL CENTENNIAL JUNIOR RANGER BADGE BY PARTICIPATING IN AT LEAST ONE GUIDED PROGRAM AND THREE ONGOING ACTIVITIES.
