MURFREESBORO — To hear John Oldham and Frances Victory talk about their first meeting is almost like listening to teenagers. With his arm wrapped around her tightly, he grinned from ear to ear as she spoke. She giggled as they shared their whirlwind romance and upcoming nuptials set for June 26.
The widowed Murfreesboro residents, both in their 80s, admitted neither of them was looking for anyone. Both were married many decades: Oldham more than 55 years, Victory more than 60. Both lost their longtime spouses a little more than a year ago.
“He said he was not going to remarry. I said I was not going to remarry,” Victory said, laughing.
A chance meeting at First Baptist Church, where both attend, connected the two.
“I saw he was a very attractive man so I thought, ‘Wow.’ The very next day I called (a friend) to find out about him,” Victory said, eyes lighting up as she recalled the random introduction through a friend.
