MURFREESBORO – There are many places in Rutherford County to get a good haircut but there’s only one place that also gives patrons a free game of pool.
And Charlotte Crockett from Pastime Barber Shop & Billiard Room is willing to throw in therapy too.
“I give $100 counseling session for $12 and thrown in a free haircut,” Crockett said.
Crockett has been giving haircuts and counseling for 20 years, 14 years at the 110-year-old barbershop cum pool hall, on the Square.
At Pastime, patrons can get a hot-towel neck shave, head and neck rubs, haircuts, and a game of pool.
“Being on the Square is like a big family …” Crockett said. “We have a ball; even a bad day is a good day here.”
Just like every family Pastime is full of family lore, Crockett said.
It is believed that gangster Al Capone would get his haircut there when he passed through Murfreesboro on his way from Chicago to Florida and scenes from “Sweet Dreams,” the 1985 Patsy Cline biopic were filmed there, Crockett said.
