Our October meeting will feature Rutherford County’s Mike Doubler.
Michael D. Doubler served twenty-three years on active duty as a regular Army and full-time Army National Guard officer. Mike is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and holds a doctorate degree in military history from The Ohio State University.
From 1985-1988, he taught military history as a faculty member at West Point. Afterwards, he was assigned to the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C., working in the Pentagon. Following his military retirement, he headed Doubler Enterprises, a research and writing firm, for over a decade.
Mike Doubler previously authored Closing With the Enemy: How GIs Fought the War in Europe, 1944-1945, which received two national book awards and was included on the Chief of Staff of the Army’s professional reading list. Mike is also the author of Civilian in Peace, Soldier in War: The Army National Guard, 1636-2000, considered the definitive history of the Army Guard. Dr. Doubler has appeared on several national media outlets, including The History Channel, CBS News, ABC World News Tonight and National Public Radio. In addition, Mike has authored over twenty special studies and reports for the federal government and is a frequent lecturer.
