The deadline for purchasing tickets to MTSU’s annual homage to unsung African-American community heroes is approaching quickly.
Wednesday, Feb. 7, is the final day to buy tickets to the Unity Luncheon, which is slated for 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Student Union Ballroom. The keynote speaker will be MTSU alumnus Kevin Douglass Greene, great-great-grandson of iconic abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass.
The annual Black History Month event, which began in 1996, honors community members who are age 60 or older, have resided in the Middle Tennessee area for 25 years or more and “who have made outstanding contributions to their community.”
Tickets are $25 per adult, $15 per student or $250 for a table of 10. Tickets will not be available at the door. To order tickets, go to https://tinyurl.com/y799m7gh.
This year’s honorees include: John Harris, recognized as an advocate for civility; Mary Patterson Watkins, recognized for her contributions to African-American arts; Dr. Barbara Tuckson, recognized for her lifetime in service to education; Raymond Bonner, recognized for his excellence in sports; and Anthony McAdoo, recognized for his years of community service.
