Murfreesboro’s SportsCom

Who remembers the day SportsCom opened?

Many thanks to WGNS Radio, 1450AM or 101.9FM (www.wgnsradio.com) for documenting the opening of Murfreesboro’s
SportsCom!

Murfreesboro's SportsCom opened June, 1987, and WGNS Radio was there!

Murfreesboro’s SportsCom opened June, 1987, and WGNS Radio was there!  Note the absence of the Irongate Center across Memorial Blvd.  Memorial Blvd. was a two-lane highway in 1987; Irongate came along c2000.

June, 1987: Joe B. Jackson was Murfreesboro Mayor; E.C. Fite, Jr. was City manager and such as John Pittard and Mary Hutta were on the City Council.

Take a Look Back into an Early WGNS Broadcast at SportsCom in 1987.

sportscom-plaqueOn an interesting side note, WGNS was at the grand opening of the original SportsCom outdoor pool in 1987.  Since that date the outdoor pool has totally changed.

The pool started as a simple Olympic sized pool with two diving boards.  Jumping ahead to today, it is now a real waterpark with waterslides, a rock climbing wall in the pool and a high dive and low dive. The pool also has an obstacle course in the shallow end!
