Is Watkins Cemetery in Further Danger?

In addition to being overgrown and having stones down, Watson Cemetery may be in further danger.

Watkins cemetery is located just off Memorial Road at Cedar View Drive.  It’s such a peaceful little family cemetery.

The area around the cemetery is being developed, I am told, for future retail space.  Will the cemetery be torn down by the contractors or will it be restored.  This has happened before in Rutherford County….

To name a few, when State Farm was built, the DeJarnett cemetery was removed and graves were moved to Evergreen and stones restored.  The Ridout cemetery on Franklin Road, located behind the Kroger shopping center, has been restored and is still intact even though retail space has grown up around it.

Many of our Rutherford County small cemeteries are being obliterated or simply removed by age.

Mike West…please put your magic on this article and run it in the paper.  findagrave.com and the cemtery and graveyard book of Rutherford County should provide you with a more thorough cemetery list of those that have been removed or simply eroded away with age…
