Daughters of the American Revolution, Col. Hardy Murfree Chapter
Sally Brickell married Col. Hardy Murfree in 1780, birthed 10, raised 7 children. Six of the Hardy Murfree children inherited property in or around what became ”Murfreesborough’
Fanny Noailles Murfree, born 1783, married David Dickinson 1799, inherited 1,000 acres north of Murfreesborough which became her home “Grantlands”.
Mary Moore Murfree, born 1786, married Isaac Hilliard 1803, inherited 500 acres south and southeast of the town square including about one-third of the original town site. Never made her family home in Rutherford County.
Matthias Brickell Murfree, born 1788, married Mary Ann Roberts, inherited 300-acre tract east and southeast of Mrfreesborough which he developed and built two homes including “The Castle” (11 children)
Sally Hardy Murfree, born 1793, married Dr. James Maney MD, inherited 600 acres north of the Lytle subdivision on the north side of Murfreesborough which became her home “Oaklands”.
Lavenia Bembury Murfree, born 1795, married Col. Frank Burton 1814, inherited 600 acres southwest of Murfreesborough including Murfree Springs) which became known as “Uxor Hill” (the Burton home).
Martha Long Ann Croakley Murfree, born 1801, married William Maney 1818, inherited 714 acres on the east side of the West Fork of Stones River (between the Lytle and Armstrong grants) west of Murfreesborough.
NOTE: The Maney family was within Murfree circle of friends in North Carolina – three Murfree children married Maneys (Sally, Martha, and William). William Hardy Murfree, born 1781, inherited lands in Williamson County, and made his home near Franklin.
The Murfree family name continues to be a part of the Murfreesboro professional community. The line of descent to the current senior generation, as of 2014, is as follows:

Robert B. Murfree (1948- ) – Murfreesboro banker
